On the Brenta Riviera, the entertainment and folk tradition
season lasts the whole year round. It starts with Carnevale and
events in the squares, theatre entertainment, concerts, masked
water processions, festivals in the villas. With the arrival of the
warm weather, the festive spirit moves out into the open, for the
regattas along the river, and other shows put on in the patrician
gardens.
One of the most suggestive
is the "Riviera Fiorita" event,
a variety of folklore, water
sports and entertainment
that always draws in great
crowds.
A procession of decorated historical boats moves down the
river, rowed by oarsmen in costume, set against the backdrop
of the elegant villas and their flowered gardens.
Sports lovers on the other
hand look forward to
October, and the Venice
Marathon. This fascinating
and spectacular event runs
along the Brenta Riviera,
starting from Strà , among the villas and ancient country
mansions of the Venetian nobility, and with its ambitious
finishing line in St Mark's Square in Venice.
From March to
October the noble houses can be admired from the water:
take the Burchiello boat, the myth praised by Goldoni,
running from Padua to Venice and back every day, stopping en
route to visit some of the most beautiful of the Riviera villas.
